How to Have a Successful Morning Time

Tips on how to have a good morning time.

I had heard morning time mentioned so many times, in home school podcasts I thought, “I have to try this.” Though it took a few years to nail down just what materials to use, I finally found a formula that I liked, with room to plug and play a few different combinations.

What is Morning Time?

Morning Time has been referred to a Circle Time and Symposium. It is the time when all the richest information for the soul is awakened. This is done through stories, bible verses and anything virtue based.

It took me several years to get in a groove and really nail down the things that worked for morning time. Here are a few things that have made all the difference in the world, and have really set the tone for our home school.

To Begin Morning Time

  1. Play a morning time playlist: I like to play a wide variety of music in the morning. I’ve been known to play these songs: Divine Sound Radio on Amazon Prime, Oldies, Classical Music, Folk, and Irish Shanties. Morning time music might be more for me than my kids, it gets me in the zone.
  2. Put something delicious on the table. This is my number 1 tip for getting kids to come to the table to begin morning time. When its chilly, the kids sometimes get tea or hot chocolate. The girls will always come running to the table if there is fresh bread or cookies.
  3. Give preschool children story play figures. They can go along with what your morning time theme is, or if your like me, the laminated figures don’t always match the stories.

5. Give children handwriting and drawing books during listening time. Nature journal or water color is also something we’ve done and loved. It helps to keep little hands busy when they are listening to catechism poetry and stories.

Morning Time Materials to teach Faith and Morals

I have an acronym for morning time CPS Catechism Poetry and Story

FYI: Just in case CPS comes knocking, I really hope it’s during morning time!

  1. Catechism: We usually read Laura Richie’s story book bible ( There are a few words I change to make it more Catholic). I love this presentation of our Salvation story. I  think it is the most comprehensive series for kids available. We also listen to the Saints alive Podcast.
  2. Poetry: We usually read from the Harp and the Laurel Wreath or A Child’s Garden of Verses and Every Day Graces. Story: Along with the faith stories during catechism. I also love reading the girls historical literature. We are currently reading Rocky Ridge from the Little House on the Prairie Series.

Why the Andreozzi’s Believe in Morning Time

I have struggled with organizational skills my whole life; and I’ve always seriously struggled to order my day . I’m not sure if my pre -frontal cortex is to blame, or the years I spent, not developing these skills, because, coaches, teachers and every adult in between organized a schedule for me. The problem became exponentially more obvious when I became a mother and had to manage, my household.

When do I do what? How much time do I invest in this thing? Well, almost a decade later later, I’m still working on it, and I am no where near perfecting anything. There is one thing however, I can say runs well, and its Morning Time. Mamas know we need a win sometimes!

Once we regularly starting doing this an instant victory was baked into our day. It is the time my kids could grow to love their faith while at the same time enjoying a cup of tea and creating a beautiful drawing.
