Teaching Daughters the Beauty of Home: 7 Easy Ways.

Teaching Daughter the Beauty of home is important. Most girls will grow up to be a primary caretaker of their home. Why not start young, and instill lessons that the home is beautiful, and there are rewarding ways to create a beautiful home. In our family, my husband, Michael takes on the big house projects and takes care of the yard. I focus on the inside work. I love decorating my home and re-doing furniture and adding feminine beauty where I can. I’m hoping my love for designing the home will be picked up by my children. I’ve compiled 7 easy ways to teach daughters about the beauty of home.
Teach daughters the beauty of home by involving your children in home projects.
My girls love to help me paint. It is stressful and can be messy, but I think it is worth it. Kids love helping and, it teaches them responsibility. My three oldest, 10,9,7 are fairly good at keeping paint spills to a minimum. If I let them, they will happily paint a whole wall. I think Tom Sawyer was on to something. I also, remake furniture to style our home with. The girls, enjoy seeing the transformation more than I do, and they always are excited to pitch in.

Teach daughters the beauty of home by keeping positive rhetoric:
Keep language positive around caring for the home. This one, is more of a note-to-self more than anything else. I truly hate doing dishes, laundry and pretty much all things cleaning. I do however think it’s important to avoid negative language around doing these tasks. It’s important, while not liking to do housework, that we mothers train ourselves to embrace each chore with patience and gentleness.
I hope my girls won’t be negatively impacted by my dislike for chores. I want to avoid generational stigma behind keeping house.

Teach daughters the beauty of home by watching homemaking videos.
Homeworthy is one of our favorite shows to watch together. The girls enjoy watching women share their houses. The women usually explain what and why they added certain elements to their house. Sometimes its elements of design, sometimes practicality. My two youngest girls frequently ask to watch Ruth McKeaney on Homeworthy. My girls learn how to set a table for special occasions, how to arrange flowers and cook a delicious meal for her guests. She usually has a son or daughter assisting her, which is a bonus for my kids to see! After the show I can usually find more than two girls walking around the house pretending to present their space. Note: A few episodes may feature couples who don’t share my affinity for traditional marriage, so I have to be careful which episode I choose!
Whenever I get in a minimalist mood, and feel the need to declutter, I play an inspiring Youtube video to keep me motivated. When I started doing this, I noticed something delightful, my girls began to bring toys and clothes to me, “I don’t need this anymore, can you please get rid of it?” I’m not kidding you about this, they want to declutter right along with me 99% of the time when I’ve got decluttering motivation playing.
Anything that helps your child experience the energy and joy behind seeing the beauty of home is golden.

Teach daughters the beauty of home through hospitality.
I love that they are learning to put others before themselves. Teaching them to be courteous, offering food, drink, and giving their friends the opportunity to choose games and toys, teaches the beauty of offering the home for others’ comfort and enjoyment. The mutual joy this brings is priceless and will carry on into adulthood.
Occasionally I let my girls host a tea party with friends and wow, is this beautiful. What a sweet expression of hospitality, they get to help make the food, set the table, and they take particular joy in totting their fake British accents. Making memories like these are what will stick with them and teach them the joy of hospitality, providing a pleasing environment for guests.
I hope to foster a positive environment for all the little friends who visit our home. So far, my daughters’ friends keep coming back, so I think we are doing just fine.
Teach daughters the beauty of home with floral design
My girls absolutely love when we get to make floral designs together. I give them a small vase and extra flowers to design right along with me. It’s wonderful to indulge them in something that can so easily make a pretty space in the home and teach them a skill at the same time.
I learned how to arrange florals working at a flower shop, but YouTube is a great place, here is a gal that has all kinds of videos to learn how to design flowers. @Flowersbyalexis

Teach daughters the beauty of the home by gardening.
My girls love the garden. They love planting and picking vegetables They also love picking flowers for little vases. A garden is an essential part of our home and is something I know the girls will love putting in their own home. I hope their memories of gardening with mom and dad will carry through to the next generation.

Teach daughters the beauty of home using design books and magazines.
I love seeing my daughter flip through design books. There is something special about sharing the knowledge of decorating the home with her. She not only looks at the pictures, but she also reads them. I often wonder how she mixes those ideas with our home on a day-to-day basis.
